I asked everyone to write about post-secondary plans for the cover letter of the college essay. We took the PSAT on Monday, highlighted by a pre-game snack of waffles. So tell me: what are your plans beyong high school--both academic and otherwise? We can read each others' plans, which should be insightful. I modeled one below, which should be about the same length as yours. (you can digress; I certainly did).
Here's mine: (it has history and plans!)
I'm probably maxed out as far as English goes. I have a Master's degree in English literature from UNR, and a teaching certificate from Sierra Nevada College. My bachelor's degree was from Southern Oregon University, majoring in English. To pursue more English would mean a PhD, and I'm just not all that smart. I've been around people who are getting doctorates in English, and they are WAY more passionate about language than I.
I'm currently taking a series of courses at 'Harvard on the Hill' i.e. WNC. I'm studying computers: Windows Vista, Server 2008, Active Directory, etc. When I get done being all geeked out with computers, I should have a MSCIT certificate--Microsoft Certified Information Technician
Future Plans[academic]: I want to take Machine Tool Tech classes and learn how to make cool stuff with a mill and lathe. I'm one of those people that others call 'handy'--which means I can fix stuff. Learning a new skill and going from fixing to making sounds really fun. Plus, it's something about which I know nothing.
Future [non-academic]: I'd like to complete the Ironman. I've been into triathlon (swim, bike, & run) for four years now. The Ironman is the pinnacle of triathlon: swim 2.5 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles, & don't die. If that seems silly, well, it is. I'll have to train and train to complete it.
